Fixture: 5/9/2010

Score: Spixworth 1-1 Taverham Vets

Report:

The two sides had not played each other before so it would be an unpredictable game.

Both teams started well but the home teamed seemed to be stronger for about 20mins, Spixworth are very big team in respect of the size of the players, most of them over 6 foot and built like brick toilet blocks! Taverham settled down and got back into the game but overall it was pretty much an even first half.

Taverham went to a 4/5/2 for the second half and for 20 mins it seemed to put spixworth under alot of pressure. Eventually Taverham's constant possession and persistence payed off and they took the lead thro a well worked goal. Spixworth battled back but were clearly struggling to regain the first half form. however they did manage to get an equaliser thro a lapse in the Taverham teams concentration. This was a real disappointment as the lads had worked so hard only to give away such an easy goal.

Taverham gritted their teeth and pushed on with about !5 mins to go in the match. In this time we had already squandered several chances to take the victory with Deon missing the best chance when the spix GK passed the ball to him just on the edge of the box, unfortunately D placed it passed the keeper but also past the post!! Overall a very tough physical game to start the league off with, but a win was clearly on the cards with taverham clearly the best team in the second half.

Overall a good team performance all round and Clayton Jones fully deserved his first MOM of the season. Steve Walker, Paul Cutter and Bob grapes also putting in decisive performances. Taverham will settle for a point away from home on their first League game for 3 months, and with a very strong team will be looking to improve on last years 3rd place spot.
