Veterans Season Review 2009/2010

20/8/2010

In April this year Clayton Jones completed the London Marathon, he was running for Multiple sclerosis society and so far has raised £1400. He completed the course in a respectable time of 4 hour 29 minutes. Clayton an ex Taverham resident is also a senior member of the Taverham FC veterans squad and has played for the team for many years. The rest of the squad were however very surprised to hear of his noble efforts for charity as he usually finds it tough going to run around for 90 minutes let alone running for 4 and a half hours!!

There is still the opportunity to sponsor Clayton for his hard work either by going on line to the multiple sclerosis society web site and sponsoring him directly, please search on sponsor pages for Richard Jones, this should bring you to his page were you can pay by credit card or debit card. You can also sponsor him by contacting John Bishop c/o Taverham FC who will forward any monies on.

Taverham veterans had an average season and were disappointed not to finish runners up. Continued problems with injuries took their toll and in several games points were dropped when the game should have been put beyond doubt.

I would like to thank all the players for their support again this season, well done to Captain Paul Cutter for his Player of the season award, also a mention for Mark Swaby aka the Cat aka Ashley Cole aka Mick McManus who pushed Paul to within 1 vote for his player of season runner up award. There was a third player initially involved in the player of season nominations however a spoilt paper cast his nomination into doubt and unfortunately was eliminated from the contest, mentioning no names a very disappointed Ian Stubbs!

Finally a big Thank you to The Silver Fox Public house in Taverham who were very generous in their post match hospitality for Taverham Veterans and visiting teams throughout the season. The food supplied was great and usually vast amounts were consumed by both teams so Thanks very much.

John.
