Club News:
Under 9's November/December 2010 Newsletter
Posted 21/11/2010
WELCOME !!!
Hi all, firstly let me apologise for the delay in the newsletter this month, I can hardly call it the November newsletter so I’ve combined it with December.
You will all have noticed to a greater or lesser degree that both Steve K and I have had a lot on in terms of work this last month hence we have not progressed Saturday training sessions or friendlies as we would have liked. We are conscious of this and will look to be more proactive on both these areas in the new year.
We’d also like to place on record our thanks to John and Steve J for assisting us with training particularly over the last month and a half, it really has been a team effort. Having said that the under 9’s section continues to grow with a number of new faces at training and the league team currently boasting a great record of played 9 won 9.
So all in all it’s a great time for the U9’s section and we hope all your kids are enjoying being involved.
New Players As I said in my welcome note we’ve had a number of new players join us over recent weeks, Oliver, Thomas, Jordon and Justin (sorry if I’ve missed anyone !). This is great in terms of Taverham’s U9 section but we must also be aware that we are now reaching our quota. Given this if you hear of a child wanting to join us can you please ensure their parent / guardian contacts either Steve or I prior to turning up as we need to manage numbers for multiple reasons, not least the dreaded Health and Safety. For those new lads already joined I will also be issuing Registration Forms and subs requests on behalf of the club in the coming weeks to cover insurance and membership (none of this comes to the coaches). Once you’ve received them we will need these completed as soon as possible for the reasons stated. If you have any issues on this please speak to Steve or I directly. Thanks for your help with this in advance.
League Team Progress We are now nine games into the league and as most of you will be aware we have maintained a 100% unbeaten record. We have continued to meet a mixture of opposition and continued at the high standards we’ve set ourselves. At a high level the story of the latest set of games is as follows (taken from the Match Cards for each game) ….
Taverham 8 – Old Catton 0 - Good game we dominated throughout, drawing praise from the opposing manager. Some excellent goals notably a shot from distance from Ethan Warne that cannoned in off the underside of the crossbar and an effort from 15 yards by Ben Alden that hit the top corner. Jimmy was described as unplayable in the first half and overall probably one of the best if not the best performance of the season. Ethan Warne managed to bag a hat trick, Harry and Cam getting two each. Again defensively a cracking performance with only two shots late on at the Taverham goal both comfortably saved
Costessey 2 – Taverham 6 – A patchy game from us this one, coming twice from behind against a resilient Costessey. We were placed on the back foot in the first 5 minutes when a long ball over the top allowed Costessey’s striker a clear run on goal to beat George. We responded shortly after with Cam putting away a great penalty after a Costessey defender hugged the ball in the box. Costessey regained the lead from a corner shortly after which proved the wake up we needed scoring two goals before the half time break to go in 3-2 up. In the second half the team played notably better, the introduction of Joseph Chapman injected new impetus into a patchy performance where we scored three more but without stout defending and crisper finishing by Costessey it could have been more.
Taverham 5 – Mattishall 0 – An entertaining game between two really tough teams, some great goals, passing, saves and tough tackling in one of the most competitive games of the season. We dominated the first half with some good goals following some flowing passing moves and clinical finishing. In particular the goal scored by Cameron following some great work in the midfield by James. Ethan bagged his 11th goal of the season and by half time we were 5-0 up. The second half was a much tighter affair chances both ends and some saves from both keepers, but in particular the Mattishall keeper who put in an exceptional performance to keep the score at 5-0.
Horsford 0 – Taverham 8 – This was a game we dominated from start to finish, an exceptional performance from Ethan Warne and Cameron up front lead to us leading 6-0 at the break, Cameron bagging a hat trick in the process. Ethan Reid made his first appearance of the season in a team without subs due to circumstances. Overall the boys kept there energy levels up and in the end ran out comfortable winners. We also marked a milestone with the 8th goal representing Taverham’s 50th goal of the current campaign after 8 matches.
Dereham Town 1 – Taverham 5 – Before the game a 2 minute silence was held for Remembrance Sunday, impeccablely observed by both teams. The game itself was a tough affair on an artificial surface. We dominated most of the early possession and created a number of chances before James Wilson open the scoring. Throughout Dereham defended stoutly and were limited to the odd breakaway on our goal. Some exceptional saves by the Dereham keeper and some resolute defending meant the half time score was 3-0 to us. The second half was a closer affair with both midfields battling hard, Dereham had hit back with a fantastic finish before we added two more. Again the Dereham keeper produced a string of fine saves. Overall a cracking game between two good sides with Jimmy helping himself to a hat trick.
So we continue in the rich vein of form but we’re taking nothing for granted. Particularly as our old adversaries Drayton are right on our coat tails and our home game against them on the 3rd December proves to already be set up as a cracker (no Christmas pun intended !!) in the making ……
Coaches V Kids – Halloween Special - Steve and I felt it was important to mention the injustice we feel at the defeat (I believe it was 27 -9) on the Halloween fun night. We solely put this down to the dodgy decisions of the referee (Thanks Russell !). In all seriousness, I know the boys attending that week enjoyed their prize (carefully selected sweets from Tesco’s) selection ! All joking aside we’d like to thank the Dads that got involved in the parents v kids match and in particular Russell for being a great sport as referee on what was a fun training night for all.
Taverham U9’s v U8’s As some of you will know a team made up of a number of our new lads and a couple of old heads (Josh, Ethan W & R and George venturing outfield) together with Marco, Daniel and Chris played the U8’s in a friendly mid October. Although the result was largely unimportant (suffice to say they want a re-match) it was pleasing to see how the lads got on with some match time. As stated in the introduction I will be looking to sort a number of freindlies to give the lads more chance to play in the coming months and also look in the new year. Further, I’m hoping to get all the squad involved in Summer tournament football should they want to next year across the number of local tournaments.
League Next Season – Opportunity We are already looking to next season and with the amount of lads we have how we can get everyone involved in league action. We have open to us the option of entering two teams in separate local leagues. You will see if you look at the Taverham website that a number of age groups already do this. However, to do this we will require commitment from the lads that they wish to be involved and potentially a parent to step up and offer to run the second team with support from us. I know it sounds early to be talking about this but we want you to have as much time as possible to consider whether you want your child involved and if you could commit to this. If anyone wants to discuss further or is interested please see Steve or I to discuss or drop us an email.
And finally ……
Match Reporter Vacancy – For all you Facebook and Internet wizards you’ll note that that Taverham FC has a FB page and Internet site. On these pages most age groups create a “match report” for each game. We have been subject to some friendly banter in the club for not having match reports from our league and friendly games. Given this if anyone fancies taking some notes and writing a paragraph after each game to put on the website please feel free to do so, let Steve or I know and we’ll get it published.
Cup Draw – For interest the league also run a cup competition, the next round is on the 28th November and we will make our first bow in the competition with a small away trip to Diss (yes Diss).
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all – Steve and I would like to wish you and your families all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance and we’ll let you know nearer the time about the Christmas break from training.
Up the Taverham U9’s !!!
Contact Us We want your views to, training, content, what to put on the website etc …. Or even to let us know your child cannot make training …..
