2011/12 - Match Report & Photos
Fixture: 15/1/12
Score: Dereham 0-8 Taverham
Report:
Taverham came out of the blocks rapidly with a great move down the left, DJ, Harley linking up and creating a chance for Joey but he was denied by the post. Cruis was looking a threat early on and almost unlocked the defence with some clever footwork. Harley hammered in a strike from distance which the keeper could only parry and Joey was quickest to react with a cool finish into the far corner (0-1). Taverham had settled quickly and were controlling the game from midfield. After some good work by Harley to win a free-kick, Lewis fired in a mighty ball into the box and there was DJ leaping for a trademark finish (0-2). Dereham countered down the right from the re-start but the defence was rock solid. Cruis took the ball on out wide on the left and made a penetrating run with a good cross to the edge of the box for Lewis, who hit it first time and bulged the back of the net (0-3).
Tom was called into action at the other end from a free-kick but he never looked in danger. Harley unlocked the home defence once again with a delightful ball that set Cruis up for a shot and then Nathan, both saved. Rob intercepted brilliantly in defence after a rare mistake and started the next attack, Lewis with a fantastic ball through to Nathan who coolly chipped the keeper (0-4). Another Dereham attack was broken up this time by Taylor, who then launched a long ball to DJ who brought it down with a silky-smooth touch and rifled the ball into the top corner for a wonder goal (0-5). Tom made a good save from a long range dipping shot and then started a rapid counter attack that involved several players and some slick passing, Joey finally on the end of a brilliant move to clinically finish close range (0-6). Dereham came out for the second half determined to establish some pride in the team and created a half chance that had Tom scrambling across goal. With such a cushion Taverham were able to relax and play some superb passing football in the middle of the pitch. Jake turned winger with a great ball into the box for Cruis who was unlucky with a first time strike over the bar. Dereham looked more composed in the second half and were beginning to test our defence. Harley and Lewis combined well with a one-two to open the defence up again but were unable to finish.
All over the pitch Taverham were looking supremely confident and spraying the passes around, both DJ and Harley going close to extending the lead. With pressure piling up it was only a matter of time and when Harley’s powerful strike took a deflection, the goalkeeper was left stranded and unable to prevent an OG (0-7). Dereham’s purple patch had only lasted a few minutes and Taverham were now dominating again. A one-two between Harley and DJ set Lewis up but he fired wide of the target. Cruis went close again with a terrific turn in the box but hit the side netting. A powerful run down the right by Jake was then brought to an abrupt end as he was crudely taken out in the box for a penalty. DJ placed the ball and dispatched it low and hard for almost the final kick of the game (0-8).
