2011/12 - Match Report & Photos
Fixture: 29/1/2012
Score: Aylsham 2-4 Taverham
Report:
After the dissapointment of last week, this was a must win. Colt Jags had knocked us into 3rd spot in the league and this was a our chance to regain it.
We awoke to a heavy frost and the game looked in doubt. Thankfully a heavy downpour 30 mins before the game cleared the frost and it was game on !!
Once again we had a full squad to choose from. Will, Ben and Harry started on the bench.
It was a fairly even first 5 mins. Shortly after we started to settle and it wasn't long before we moved ahead. A close range effort from us was spectacularly saved by Liam, the Ayslham keeper. The rebound bobbled around before Alex picked it up on the edge of the box, knocked it onto his right foot and smashed it home .. 1-0 game on.
We bossed the next 5-10 mins Jake, Jordan and Rico went close. All credit to Aylsham who then started to take a foothold in the game. They were without their talisman Luke but still played some fantastic football. They defended well, notably their number 6 who marked Jake out of the game early on. They also looked good going forward with some lovely link up play cutting us open on several occasions.
Deservedly they pegged us back midway through the half. A corner dropped into the goalmouth and wasn't cleared, smash, 1-1. Frustrating, clear it boys.
Shortly after they nudged ahead, again deservedly, after a mix up between Daniel and Wes. We were holding on, but thankfully managed to hold it to 2-1, in part thanks to Brad, who was having a blinder at the back.
h/t 2-1
After some changes with CJ dropping in for Diddy, Harry for Jack and Ben in the middle we looked to make the most of the downhill slope. We looked far better early on with Alex stretching their defence having switched to the right wing. He made a surging run down the wing and passed inside to Ben who controlled it and tapped home from close range, great goal with Ben working hard in the middle.
Within a minute Alex created the 3rd, he managed to keep the ball in on the wing, cut inside and floated a cross into the box. Ben glanced it on to Harry who headed home from close range at the far post .. the smallest player on the pitch, great header, great goal ... crowd in raptures 2-3.
Just when we thought things couldn't get any better Jake managed to disposses their defender and stroke it to the left of Liam, bottom corner. Great goal shame about the celebration .. ha ha
Ethan reverted to defence having worked hard in the middle and we shut up shop with 4 at the back. A word for CJ who switched from left wing to left back and looked assured in both positions, well done. Daniel came off with a slight calf strain and was replaced by Rico who dropped into right back as though he had played their all season. Will worked really hard in midfield and deservedly got several cheers from the Taverham posse who were out in force once again !!
I cannot recall a single effort on our goal in the 2nd half. The crazy 5 minutes above, effectively killed the game off.
Several were in contention for Man of the Match, notably Benji, Ethan, CJ and Alex, however Brad just nudged it for consistency throughout the entire game, well done.
Shortly after the game, news broke that East Coast had won their game against Colt Jags 3-2. We re-take 2nd spot with Colt to play at home next week. It will be a massive game, can't wait.
