Score: Taverham Tigers 3-1 Mulbarton

Report:

Everyone was looking forward to the start of a new season, and this first game was a thrilling one to watch. The game started with a minutes silence in rememberence of all the victims during 9/11.

From the first kick of the ball you could see that both teams were keen to start the campaign with a win. >Within the starting minutes Taverham were awarded a corner which Mulbarton dealt with and cleared, only for Jake to pick it up on the left, but unfortunately his shot was fired just wide. On the other side of the pitch Jay and Lewis paired up nicely for a cross that came in from the right which Kieran could not quite get his head to. It was then Harrison's turn to have a shot with his left foot going just wide.

Against the run of play Mulbarton were rewarded a corner which they headed home sweetly with Archie having no chance. Mulbarton were fired up after the goal and really put the pressure on Taverham, Archie came off his line to save an attempt on goal, it was then James who cleared the ball off the line. Mulbarton's spell continued with another two shots at goal but both going wide.

Taverham were not going to give up and when Jay crossed in the ball from the right Harry slided in but narrowly missed. Lewis then lobbed the Mulbarton defence and Kieran was there to header the ball into the net for the equaliser. Taverham were back in the game, Kieran done a magnificent overhead kick and Harry drilled the ball into the Mulbarton net making it 2-1 to Taverham.

Taverham continued to run at goal and Jakes cross found Harry in the box, his first attempt being saved and the second hitting the crossbar.

Half Time 2-1

Mulbarton came out in the second half very strong with Archie having to make a double save. Lewis had been moved to left midfield and he connected well with Harry having a shot firing across the goalmouth. Rightback Jamie was pushing forward and his attempt on goal from outside the box came very close.

Taverham were continuing their attempts on goal with Lewis, Kieran and Billy all having shots just going wide. Taverham then had a corner and Jake drilled it into the near post for Jay to lay it off to Kieran who made sure it hit the back of the net for 3-1. It seemed all one way traffic for the last 10-15 minutes of the game but Taverham could not find that fourth goal. A great game to watch and all players gave 100% in the first game of the season.
