Taverham FC - Annual Parents 5 a side Tournament

16 Taverham teams took to the hallowed 3g surface at the FDC on Thursday 29th December. This was the start of what we hope will become an annual event.

The group stages comprised of 4 mini leagues of 4 teams, some fairer than others !!! ..... The FDC kept a running table throughout the night enabling teams and their followers to keep up with their progress.

After 3 gruelling games the runners and riders shook down to 8 and then 4 and 2 after the quarters and semis. The standard of some games was exceptional, none more so than the final, this between Steve O'Leary and his u8 parents and Mike Ridout with his u16's.

The game was closely contested ending in a 1-1 draw after 15 mins play. Both keepers made several outstanding saves, some more orthodox than others, to keep their teams in the game. And so it came down to penalties. Again the standard was excellent, however as always there can only be one winner. The u8's took the honours this time round.

Thanks to Kev Bass for organising the event. Emma, Sue and Annabel for laying on some food and also the FDC for providing the venue. Last but not least a special thanks to Ellery Bish, Ollie Woods and John Bish for reffing, much appreciated.
